Team Leicestershire: Basketball Finals

Congratulations to every school that made it to the Team Leicestershire Basketball county finals which were held at Leicester Riders, Morningside Arena during March. It was a huge achievement to even make it to the final and there was some amazing basketball skills and plays shown over the events.

Additionally, we'd like to thank all teams for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and resect throughout each competition, every team did themselves proud.

The final standings across all the events were:

Primary Final

Mountfield Lodge 4 – 5 Brocks Hill

Kibworth 4-2 Great Dalby

3rd / 4th Play Off

Mountfield Lodge 4 – 3 Great Dalby

Kibworth 6 – 1 Brocks Hill

Standings (5th – 10th in no particular order)

Bringhurst, Bridge Junior, Beaumont Lodge, All Saints C of E, Burbage, Bishop Ellis.

The atmosphere at the primary event was fantastic, it was clear that participants were thrilled to be playing at the home of the Leicester Riders team! There were plenty of silky dribbling skills on display, and a number of 3 pointers were witnessed, much to the delight of those watching on. It was great to see lots of teams not only cheering on their own team, but also other schools and teams as well. Thank you all for making it such a great competition!

The secondary girl's finals followed the Primary event, so there was a quick turnaround before the action got underway again! Whilst it was great to have some schools returning to finals from previous years, it was also fantastic to see some new schools making it to finals night.

All the matches were played in great spirit, and all teams displayed determination right until the very end regardless of the score. The Y7 and Y9 finals were both particularly close matches, but throughout all matches the consistency of high-level play was clear to see. All teams had obviously been training hard ready for the occasion.

The following night we hosted the secondary boys finals, and once again we were treated to some high quality match ups. It was the attacking play in particular which caught the eye, with a number of lay ups, slam dunks and 3 pointers being scored! All the matches were highly competitive, with no single team completely dominating their final. A special mention must go to Welland Park and Anstey Martin, who kept us guessing who would win the Y11 final right up until the final seconds of the match!
